Giving Back: A Spotlight on Kidz Corner
As soon as I walked through the double doors of the understated building hidden amongst a residential neighborhood in Plantation, Florida, I was greeted by a team of smiling faces and children that made my heart immediately melt.
It’s hard to understand Kidz Corner if you have never visited. Most people don’t even know that a place like it exists. And to be completely honest, I was a little nervous to visit myself. In my head I imagined Kidz Corner as a sad, solemn environment where children were unable to thrive because of their severe medical disabilities. Fortunately, I have never been more wrong.
In brief, Kidz Corner is a family-owned facility that specializes in 24-hour medical and respiratory care to children with distinct growth and development needs. Their highly-trained medical staff provides the acute attention and monitoring that is essential to sustaining patient safety relative to pulmonary management, medication and nutrition. Appropriate educational services are tailored to the specific needs of each child and family.
Brightly colored walls, physical therapy rooms with toys and music, and an outdoor playground are just a few examples of how Kidz Corner facilitates a learning environment and joyful experience within its own walls. And that sense of happiness was undoubtedly projected on the faces of the children I met with for only a short while. Watching the highly trained and knowledgeable staff interact with the children you could tell they were well cared for and loved.
The staff and owners of Kidz Corner also made our team feel more than welcomed. The head nurse was so excited when our group walked in with onesies because many of the babies have gastrostomy tubes they try to pull on and the snaps at the bottom on onesies prevent them from doing so. It made me feel AWESOME to know we had hit the nail on the head! Not to mention the babies looked so cute in their onesies I just wanted to snuggle them all day 🙂
The Luc&Lou team always talks about how giving back IN PERSON is our favorite thing to do. Because it is. Giving back to our community and those around us is our #1 intention. If we can do that, we have succeeded. Even though I know the babies at Kidz Corner can’t talk, deep down I know they are forever grateful, and so am I.
Let’s continue to make love contagious.
